Getting Ready for the Ceremony - photo by Night and Day Photography
This photo is a favourite of mine. Obviously the bride looks stunning, but getting ready photos in general are pretty cool. There had to be 3 bridesmaids all tying the laces for this dress; but by taking the shot from around the corner, all of a sudden this usually busy photo captures something quite different from the normal hustle and bustle involved in trying to make sure the laces are all the same length, not twisted, and tight enough. I love how this photo singles out the bride, and even though you can see there is a lot going on, time seems still. I love getting ready shots! They are so different from formals and ceremony photos, everyone should have them. So before you decide that these are not required in your photography package, give it a second thought.

Everyone knows the importance of having their wedding photographed by a fun, creative professional. But don’t forget that your wedding begins with a proposal – an incredibly significant moment in any relationship. Why not have a photographer at your proposal as well? It’s a unique way to surprise your partner.

Funky Wedding Cake by Pink Sugar Photography
Although formal white wedding cakes can be beautiful, they aren’t your only option when it comes to dessert on your wedding day. More and more brides are straying away from traditional cakes in favour of funky, modern designs or even having no cake at all and instead opting for different types of desserts completely, like cheesecake or chocolate fountains.
Lindsey and Paul’s brown and blue cake sticks out in my memory as a favourite from 2008 because it was both unique and totally delicious.

Silvertip Golf Resort in Canmore, Photo by Buffy Goodman
One of my favorite things about living in Alberta is being so close to the mountains. And weddings in the Rockies are spectacular, for yourself and your guests too! A great mountain location is the Silvertip Golf Resort just outside of Canmore, Alberta. The photo shown here from Cathy and Kwad’s springtime wedding, showcases the view from the patio of the room their reception was held in. The Silvertip has got a outdoor gazebo for ceremonies too (and it’s a great course for your golfers out there!)

Spending some time alone - by Picture That Photography
Wedding days come and go so quickly that couples rarely have time to think! If only possible, we suggest taking a moment to get away from everyone after the ceremony to let everything sink in and spend some time alone together. At a recent wedding Sarah & Scott did just that- left in a horse-drawn buggy for a short ride around Fort Edmonton before family pictures began. We thought that was an awesome idea!

heritage weddings & kilts , photo by Stephanie Cragg
Celebrating with elements of your heritage makes your wedding day truly your own!
You can do it in subtle ways, or go for a big impact, like our bride Diana did, by having
all of the men on her side of the family, wear kilts for the wedding day.

Wildlife & Weddings - Photo by Rob & Lauren
I wanted to share a really cool image we created at a wedding this past weekend! We were out at Red Tail Landing Golf Course and had snuck away for a few photos in the trees. Just as we had our couple sit down for a few snuggly photos, and rabbit came down the path and hopped over the log right beside them! What a cute moment, and great story from their wedding day!

Northern Bear Golf Course - Photo by Shandro Photo
If you want to have your wedding at a golf course, one option is the Northern Bear, about 30 minutes east of the city. The food is wonderful at this small clubhouse, and the beautiful natural forest around the course adds a great atmosphere. Great for a smaller wedding.

Generally, once you have booked your wedding day and picked the venue, the next thing you secure is a photographer. Never forget that your photographer is a valuable resource for information and ideas. They have attended many weddings and worked with many vendors. In most cases, photographers are the only service provider that gets to see all of the other service providers at your wedding, from the make-up atrist to the DJ. Who is a good florist? Where can I get a custom cake? What is a good indoor location? Got any ideas for party favors? Do you kow a stylist who will come to my house? All of these are things your photographer may be able to assist you with. All it takes is an email.

Marianne passing out flip flops to her guests - photo by Night and Day Photography
A popular favour that is making the rounds lately is to give out thongs as wedding favours! Even to the men! Well ok, FLIP FLOPS actually but when I was growing up everyone called them thongs. (I don’t know when the nomenclature changed) The response to them is awesome as many are quick to substitute their heels for the flip flops when getting down to party.
There are many places you can get them, and some stores even personalize them with your names if you wish! The only possibly better favour would be to give out Ferraris to everyone. Ok… maybe not but it’s still a neat idea!

Cap Juluca - photo by Rob & Lauren Photographers
We recently had the fabulous opportunity to shoot at this wonderful resort, and wanted to share our experience! Cap Juluca is on the small island of Anguilla. Our Celebrity Cruises ship docked at the island of St. Maarten, and it was just a short bus and boat ride to this paradise. If you’re looking for a destination wedding location, or even where to go for your honeymoon, definitely check out Cap Juluca!
