True Love

Is there anything sweeter than a bride looking at her groom during the ceremony? So much emotion in a single look.

Allow him time for a cigar…

Photograph by Chris Uglanica - CU Photography
One of the most common groom practices that I’ve come to see, is the groom outside smoking a quality cigar with some of his best friends. All too often, though, I see that the guys have chosen the largest smokes that they could get their hands on, and fail to realize just how much time they would require for something like that.
That being said, you may want to allow your groom a bit of time outside to smoke a small cigar, which will give him a chance sit back and reflect on the day’s events thus far, and tie that memory in with any cigars he smokes in the future. You just never know.

Gearing up for the Summer
With the 2010 wedding season fast appoaching I am pleased to say I finally got delivery of my newest camera. The Canon 1D Mk IV is Canons latest and greatest professional body. I’m looking forward to making use of it’s unbelievable low light capability at the next reception.

Why can’t guys have fun getting ready?
So why do girls get all the fun? Yeah yeah I know it’s because Cyndi Lauper says “it’s just what they really wa-aa-aa-aant…” but being a guy myself I know guys love hanging out with friends more than just about anything in life. So a wedding morning is a perfect excuse.
And for each perfect excuse, there is a perfect location! One of them in town is called Gameday Hair Care. Here, they have all the sports playing on TVs, you can have a couple beers with your buds, or challenge them to a duel on Playstation while you wait for your cut, style, or shave.
Knowing that it’s mainly brides who read this blog, maybe consider planning something special for your future hubby on the wedding morning. If you cannot get WWE Smackdown tickets for the morning of your wedding, then Gameday Hair is the next best thing… LOL.

Spontaneous photos
I couldn’t have planned this better! The fun-loving groomsman was running through the alley, pretending to be Batman, when I yelled ‘Stop!’ And out of my camera bag I pulled my sons Batman mask! What are the odds I’d have that in there? The groomsman had a ball hamming it up after that!

A lifetime of memories…
As you travel down the pathway of life, don’t forget to bring your Edmonton Wedding Photographer!
There are a lifetime of memories to capture. Parents of a bride I shot, invited me out to their 4oth anniversary.
We had a great time and were able to capture images of a love 40 years strong!
Wishing you happiness, joy, and laughter!

The Cake/Cupcake Combo
Predicting if your reception guests are going to be big cake eaters or not, is tricky business. Sometimes couples end up with way more leftover cake that they were anticipating! An awesome solution I’ve seen over the years is having BOTH a small cake AND cupcakes… that way you have an actual cake ‘to cut’, and if there’s any leftover cupcakes, those seem to be a lot easier to get people to accept, to ‘take home with them’.

Make Time for Meetings
I get a lot of emails asking me what my prices are, and if I am available on X date. (as do many of my colleagues) This is kind of the equivalent to calling a store and asking if they sell dresses, and how much are they? Well as you can imagine, depending on what you are looking for, the prices can vary, also important is whether there is a good fit. Would you buy a dress if you never tried it on? A consultation with your photographer is like trying on a dress, you want to establish if there is a good fit. Does their personality and character mesh well with yours? Establishing a budget is great, but like an amazing dress, if you found one that fit you like a glove and made you look amazing, you might be willing to spend a little more than you thought. So I urge you to take the time to ‘try on’ your photographer and see if you get that incedible fit.

A Sequence of Photographs
Sometimes a stories or moments are best captured in a sequence rather than in a separate photograph. I absolutely love this sequence of Amanda and Ben from their wedding day as they ran towards the bridge for a last couple photographs before it began to pour.

Indoor photo locations – think outside the box
When planning a winter wedding, it’s important to take photos outside if you can, but equally important is having an indoor location so your wedding party doesn’t freeze in their formal wear out in the sub zero temperatures. lol There are great places everywhere for photos. These photos were taken inside an old train station, and the employees there were all too happy to oblige this bride’s request to take photos there. In general, people will do almost anything for a girl in a wedding dress if she asks! So when you are thinking about taking indoor photos, don’t exclude your favourite restaurant (get permission in advance), or that old building you have seen in passing. Remember if you are thinking about taking advantage of an office building or mall, you will need to have wavers signed in advance though.

Unusual can mean Unique!
You may find your professional Edmonton wedding photographer asks you to do some things you werent expecting
You can always say no, that’s ok. Or you can trust that there is a very good reason you’re being asked to do it: like lay on the staircase in the hotel lobby
Your photographer probably has a vision!

Facebook at a Wedding?

One of the craziest things we’ve seen recently at a wedding is a groom updating his Facebook status to ‘married’ during the ceremony! Now that’s a committment to social networking…
