Looking In - By Picture That Photography

Looking In - By Picture That Photography

One of my favorite photographs from this wedding is this one… taken from outside the building through the window.  I love the feeling in it, of an observer or passerby catching a glimpse of the wedding as they walk by.

YMCA - by Picture That Photography

A lot of couples hire a photographer to photograph until the end of the first few dances only.  We recommend having your photographer stay a little longer.  Some of our most fun dance shots have been an hour or so into the dance when  a large group hits the floor!

Ring Bearers & Flower Girls…

Ring Bearer gets Ready - by Picture That Photography

Ring Bearer gets Ready - by Picture That Photography

“Do we want to have so-and-so be a flower girl?  They may be too young to pay attention, and to walk down the aisle without turning and bolting!”.  We often hear couples contemplating this.  Our take on it is this: if you have little ones that are important and meaningful to you, have them in your wedding for sure!  There are so many cute photos of little tykes at weddings, and the mini tuxes and little white dresses makes them even cuter!  These little ones are from Rhonda & Jamie’s wedding which you can view here :)

Drummer in Silhouette - by Picture That Photography

Drummer in Silhouette - by Picture That Photography

During day 5 of Avileen and Sundeep’s wedding celebration we photographed their beautiful reception.  They did a fabulous job of creating an awesome atmosphere by bringing in drummers to drum along with the music on the dance floor.  We loved this photograph of a drummer in silhouette with another drummer with more lighting behind him in the smoke.

Hitch Hiking to the Reception

Hitch Hiking to the Reception - photo by Night and Day Photography

This wedding was such a riot, the bride and groom had so much fun throughout the day and it carried over into the photos.  From “Top Model fun” shots, to goofy fun, to high fashion style, to intimate photos – they had it all.  This is just one of the fun photos they did on their wedding day.  It rained just before the reception, but the rest of the day had been so beautiful, it didn’t stop the fun. Click on the photo if you want to see more.

So much of your time, effort, and money go into planning your perfect celebration.  Have some fun, enjoy your wedding!  It makes for the best memories, and photos!

Adding Depth with Reflections - Trident Photography

Adding Depth with Reflections - Trident Photography

No, I am not talking about taking a look back upon your life here. I am talking about the phenomenon of light reflecting off a glossy surface, and how to best use that to your benefit. In this image, I used the reflection to include subjects in the photo that would otherwise be impossible. It gives a unique and interesting look.

Winter wedding photos inside an old rail station - photo by Night and Day Photography

Winter wedding photos inside an old rail station - photo by Night and Day Photography

When planning a winter wedding, it’s important to take photos outside if you can, but equally important is having an indoor location so your wedding party doesn’t freeze in their formal wear out in the sub zero temperatures.  lol  There are great places everywhere for photos.  These photos were taken inside an old train station, and the employees there were all too happy to oblige this bride’s request to take photos there.  In general, people will do almost anything for a girl in a wedding dress if she asks!  So when you are thinking about taking indoor photos, don’t exclude your favourite restaurant (get permission in advance), or that old building you have seen in passing.  Remember if you are thinking about taking advantage of an office building or mall, you will need to have wavers signed in advance though.

classic church photo

Classic Church Photo by Night and Day Photography

I love the classic black and white wedding photos with the couple in front of an old stone church that you see in family albums from years past.  That’s why I’m always delighted when brides and grooms pick these great old churches to get married in.  Usually, they have also picked a venue to take photos at – but – taking just a couple of minutes to take a photo in front of the church always turns out awesome!

This church is the beautiful St. Joachim church in central Edmonton.  I’ve always wanted to shoot a wedding here and I was NOT disappointed at all.   Not only is the outside fantastic, the priest was fun, the stained glass was awesome, it had lots of parking, and the roof…  the roof is spectacular from the inside.  I totally recommend it!   It’s a great Edmonton Venue for a ceremony – particularly if your looking for a catholic wedding.  Just don’t miss out on a photo outside the church before you take off after the ceremony.

Justin and Cheryl - Photography by Buffy Goodman

This is the pub where Cheryl and Justin first met, the very table they sat at that fateful night! Awww!

Revisiting a special place that holds meaning during your wedding photo session adds that special something – this is a photo with an awesome story you can tell your grandkids!

Cheryl and Justin didn’t have the time on their wedding day to make it to this pub for photos, but if you’re into this idea, just ask your wedding photographer if they offer “day after” sessions. Without the added scheduling pressures of the wedding day, your photographer and you can make some awesome memories come alive.
