Unique wedding ideas - Photo by Shandro Photo

We love to see people infusing their personalities into their wedding. No better example than Oriana and Mike – for their fall wedding they did so many unique things. Oriana wore a beautiful chocolate evening gown rather than the traditional white gown, both Oriana and Mike had only one attendant (both being guys), and they had some of their portraits done in a parking garage. Definitely not your typical wedding, and every detail meant so much to them. The result was truly unique photos and memories of their wedding.

Make your wedding “greener”!

The David Suzuki Foundation recently published an excellent article here on some ways to go “green” for your wedding! One particularly awesome and easy idea is to minimize negative environmental impact  by offsetting carbon emissions on behalf of the out of town guests flying to your wedding. And for your honeymoon too, if you’re flying! TerraPass is just one of many carbon footprint calculators.

Some other tips on a green wedding are here. If you want to support environmental projects further, you can even start a green gift registry with the David Suzuki Foundation! (Information on how to do this is included in the article!) Remember, folks, green is the new black!

Many brides ask us where a good place to have their make-up done is.  There are many places out there, but one that keeps on standing out is Mac Cosmetics.  The staff is friendly, the stores are usually big, the colour selection is unbeatable, and they even have creams like “strobe cream” made for photography!  If you leave your name, number and wedding date, they can even coordinate to send someone to your home or getting ready location!

Can’t choose a best man? Have two!

Groomsmen - Photo by Shandro Photo

Alison & Sean have so many close friends that they couldn’t decide who to choose as a best man and maid of honour. So they each had two! You don’t have to stick with tradition and only have one each. Two of Sean’s guys got red ties and vests, and the other three had pink, and the colour scheme was mimicked for the girls as well. Blending colours is a great way to distinguish your most special attendants.

Do Something Quirky

'Till Death Do Us Part - by Picture That Photography

Why go to the same places every other couple goes and have similar looking photographs?

Do something original!  Do something that represents who you are as a couple.  If you love skating, why not take your photos on the ice?  If you love the movies theatre, take some photographs there!  A great photographer will love to take your ideas and help them come alive…. so be different, be quirky, be you!

Highlands Golf Club - Photo by Shandro Photo

One of the most beautiful receptions we photographed last year was Anita & Jeff’s at the Highlands Golf Course in Edmonton. The food was the best we had all year, the staff was friendly, and the expansive windows around the banquet room gave all of the guests a beautiful view to enjoy during the reception. The stone fireplace provides a gorgeous backdrop for the head table. It’s a great reception location.

One of the best decisions you can make for your wedding photography, is to have engagement photos taken by your chosen photographer. The time and energy you spend on such a photo shoot will pay off with interest, as you simply cannot buy the comfort level that you get by hanging out with your photographer for that relaxed portrait session.

Go ahead! Trash That Dress! :)

Edmonton Wedding Photography • Trash The Dress Edmonton

There are tons of options when it comes to a “Trash The Dress” session!

First of all, the dress itself.  You can “Trash” your actual dress, you can get a duplicate dress, or you can purchase a more inexpensive second dress to totally “Trash”!  Try a thrift store, you’ll for sure find a dress worthy of “Trashing”!  :)

Next, When to “Trash”?  You can be a super brave soul and “Trash” on you actual wedding day.  You could set up a “Trashing” session the day after, or even when you get back from your honeymoon when you have more time.

Finally, How to Trash?  Water, Mud, Farms, Back Alley’s, or Fire!!??  Whatever you do, the whole point is to have fun and end up with some SWEET pictures when you’re done.  Do something fun and personal to your likes or do something crazy and completely off the wall!  :)

When in doubt about any of the aspects of “Trashing” your dress…  TALK TO YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER!!!  :)    Your Photog will have tons of ideas to bounce off you and will be able to arrange a time that is best for you.

Happy Trashing!  ;)

Wishing you happiness, joy, and laughter!

An Indoor Back-up Location is a Good Thing!

Everyone hopes it’s a nice day when they get married, but sometimes it isn’t, at least for some portion of picture time.  If you are prepared with a back-up location, or choose a place that offers both, you have no need to worry!  Many places can be used as a back-up spot, but to ensure things go smoothly, we recommend checking with the place to find out about booking it.  The fees associated with many indoor locations are insignificant when compared to the pay off if they need to be used.

Edmonton Weddings - Rose Ceremony. Photograph by Stephanie Cragg

A lovely element seen at todays weddings, is the rose ceremony.
If your officiant asks if you would like to have one of these, be sure to
inquire into which one they were going to incorporate into your nuptuals.
The ceremony can vary from the bride & groom presenting roses to each other,
to the couple giving the roses to the parents, to the officiant noting which
sentiment is attached to each different colour of rose.

Location choices for formals

Wedding Photography at U of A - Trident Photography

When considering locations for formals, one area that should not be overlooked is the University of Alberta.  Old character buildings, nicely manicured gardens, beautiful water features, and a central location all make this a prime choice for your outdoor photography session.  While it is possible to book access to buildings such as the old arts building, many of the areas are open to the public, and free to use as well.
