Keeping Dry on a Rainy Wedding Day - photo by Night and Day Photography

Wedding Photos at the Timms Centre - photo by Night and Day Photography

We all love the wedding photos with the big skies and vast landscapes of Alberta, but, how do you plan in case of an afternoon thundershower.  If your up for it, you pack umbrellas and we shoot in the rain – which is awesome!  I love shooting in the rain – but that could be because I don’t have to wear heels and a formal white dress, and my hair looks pretty much the same;  wet or dry.   (  :

However, if you prefer to stay dry… where do you go to have photos done?  There are options!  One of the lesser known options in Edmonton is the Timms Centre located on the University of Alberta Campus.   It has to be booked in advance and there is a fee, but the people are awesome, and its a nice place to hang out and take some photos.  There are several options for photographs there, but this photo was taken in the brushed stainless steel elevator inside the Timms Centre.

Of course, because it’s Alberta, there will likely be a moment when the rain passes and you can quickly run out for some great photos using the University campus and gorgeous old buildings there.  And if the rain comes back, you  run into the Timms again –   white dress stays fabulous, and hair stays done.  No umbrella needed.

Wedding Gown alternative . Photo by Stephanie Cragg

I’ve only seen this once, and didn’t even know they existed until then, but Amy chose to wear wedding pants! (purchased right at a Bridal Salon) And they were fabulous! Just like a gown that swishes when you move, it looked like she was walking amongst the clouds !

Wedding Ring Photo - By Rob & Lauren

You likely spent a lot of time choosing the perfect engagement ring and wedding bands, so why not let your photographers get some unique and cool images of them! You can do so much more than just putting them in your bouquet. We used the table favours at a recent wedding to create this cute and unique image. The bride was born in the year of the pig, so this photo will be extra special for her!

We have travelled around Alberta photographing weddings, from everywhere to Onoway to Bawlf.  You don’t have to have an out-of-town wedding to get that beautiful rural feel to your photos. There are beautiful landscapes just outside the city, you just need to schedule some extra travel time to get there.

Super Fun Couple by Pink Sugar Photography

Are you a really romantic couple or more playful and silly?  Are the two of you super suave and sexy? Maybe you’re both a little quirky and offbeat…

However you would describe yourselves — don’t be afraid to allow your personalities to shine through in your images. Try to relax, have some fun and be yourselves (whomever that might be!) and you are sure to love the photographs that you and your photographer produce together!

Take a moment…

Take a Moment - Photo by CU Photography

Take a moment - Photo by CU Photography

If there was one piece of advice that I could pass along to every Edmonton bride that will help with their sanity on their wedding day, it would be this. Take a moment.

Take a moment to remember the small details. Take a moment to chat with the people who have come to share in your joy on this amazing day.  Take a moment to be with your new spouse and remember the little things from the day.

Your day will fly by and although you’ll miss seeing moments here and there throughout the day, your Edmonton wedding photographer will be there to capture them for you.

Make it unique, make it you!

Wedding Photos at Night! Make it different!

Wedding Photo Taken at Night - photo by Night and Day Photography

Wedding photos are so much fun to take!  But I gotta say,  I LOVE shooting at night.

There is something truly unique about it, and it allows your photographer to really play with light!  As a bonus, you end up with something really different.  If you can spare a few minutes during your reception, why not try to sqeeze in a photo after dark?

This photo was taken at Edmonton’s awesome Fort Edmonton Park.

Keeping Bouquets Fresh

Edmonton wedding photographers / Tulips / Bouquets

Sometimes on the wedding day, placing your bouquet in water in between events and photos that it’s needed for, will help keep it fresh and pert. Be sure to ask your florist if this is something that they recomend for your particular type of flowers. For example: I’ve seen first hand how tulips can wilt if not given water and how they’ve stayed looking amazing when they were placed in water a couple times through the day.

Your bridal party are some of your closest friends and family, so make sure you plan lots of time to get some unique photos with them! You’ll want more than just the standard formals with your bridesmaids and groomsmen. Get photos with each member individually, all the girls together, all the guys together, and the whole group. Our couples usually give us at least an hour to shoot with the bridal party, and we are able to get tons of fun images!

Diana & Jeremy - Photo by Shandro Photo

This post isn’t about cakes, or flowers, or any tips. It’s just a beautiful photo from a recent wedding. This church in Neerlandia, AB has the most amazing stained glass windows, and the warm light streaming in, embracing Diana & Jeremy in their first moments after being married.

Flawless Couture Event Planning - Photo by Buffy Goodman

There are a lot of wedding planners out there, but one person I’ve worked with and was extra impressed by was Maria at Flawless – she’s bubbly, high energy, and very helpful – she has such great ideas and her clients can’t say enough good things about her! She loves her job and it shows in every single detail.

This photo is from Dawn and Ryan’s fairytale wedding at the Faculty Club, which Maria coordinated. It truly was a flawless day!
