Anyone hear sirens? - photo by Night and Day Photography

Anyone hear sirens? - photo by Night and Day Photography

I haven’t been in a fire hall since elementary school.   That was a LONG time ago!  So naturally, when this awesome couple said they wanted to take photos at the fire hall the groom worked at – I was excited!  Seriously though, what a great idea!  Doesn’t work so well if you are a dentist – something about taking wedding photos in the dental chair with the drill near by just doesn’t work.  But a fire hall is AWESOME!  It makes for truly unique photos that are totally personal!  Who else will have wedding photos taken inside a fire engine?  This is the first I’ve heard of it.  Besides, who needs to rent a tux when you have a great uniform like that!

Grooms: Wait to shave

Today’s tip is pretty simple, and for all the groom’s out there! If your photographer is coming to take photos of you and your guys getting ready, make sure to wait until they arrive to start shaving (if you have enough time, of course). I mean, c’mon. Mike looks pretty darn cool in that shot!

We always recommend having a rainy-day backup for your wedding. One great option is the Citadel Theatre. It has lush plants, and a beautiful waterfall.  The Citadel is also a great location for your wedding ceremony.  The beautiful architecture and outdoor-indoor feel is a great setting for a wedding.

Dare to be different!

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

One thing that I tell all of my clients, is that if you’re going to do something special or have some surprise cooked up for the wedding day, absolutely be sure that you have informed your photographer of it beforehand, so that they do not miss one single moment of it.

One case of this for sure, is explained by the following video link on youtube!  I would have LOVED to be the photographer there for this wedding!

Since I have no photograph to illustrate my point today, please check out the video link for YouTube.  You will LOVE it!

Engagement Guestbook

Engagement Guestbook

Many couples want to have an engagement photo session, but aren’t too sure what to do with all the photos once they’ve got ‘em!

One fun idea is to create a sign-in book that features a few of your favorite photos. Many photographers offer this product, or if you’re crafty or enjoy scrapbooking, you can make your own. Guests love looking at the photos, and it’s an awesome keepsake that you’ll look at again and again.

Ring Reflections - by Picture That Photography

Ring Reflections - by Picture That Photography

At Candis and Nick’s wedding Krister had this awesome idea to photograph the couple’s rings on blades of grass while capturing their reflection in the groom’s ring!  It was such an interesting idea.  People who view this photograph first notice the rings, then stop and notice the reflection of the couple inside!

We recommend having both the bride and groom’s rings in one location during the getting ready so the photographer can spend some time doing some awesome ring photos!  Otherwise, leave a bit of time during your formals to take a few photographs of your rings as well!

Edmonton photo loacations galore

Recently I was assisting fellow Edmonton Wedding Photographer, Chris Uglanica of CU Photography. As the bride & groom were taken to Chris’ creative location spots, I saw this grilled fence and was inspired to set them up with my own quirky shot :)

We recently had the opportunity to shoot in Hall D at the Shaw Conference Center, and had our minds blown! As dinner was served the curtains were raised to give us all a stunning view of the river valley. I’m probably not the only person who had my jaw on the floor when that happened! If you’re looking for a stunning and modern venue to accomodate a large wedding definitely check out Hall D at the Shaw Conference Center!

Include Traditions

Culture is what can define us, or it can be something we draw from for inspiration. Recently we witnessed a small tea ceremony at a wedding that was a blend of Asian and Western cultures. The traditional ceremony involved the couple presenting their relatives with tea as a sign of respect, and was a great way to incorporate cultural elements into their wedding.

We Love Balconies!

We love balconies! - by Picture That Photography

We love balconies! - by Picture That Photography

We love getting various angles and views of the same events at weddings.  One thing that really helps this out is when we encounter a balcony at a ceremony or reception.  We love balconies!

Here is a photograph of a small ring bearer at St. Joseph’s Basillica in Edmonton as he walks down the aisle.  The church is really large, and the amount of pews and length of the aisle really make this photograph for us.  If you have a location that comes with a balcony, ask your venue manager to have it open to your photographer!

Staying Relaxed on the Big Day!

Chilling out on the Wedding Day

Chillin' out on the Wedding Day - photo by Night and Day Photography

Your wedding day – it only happens once – so why not take the time to enjoy it!

The only sure fire way to do this is to make sure that every detail has been planned in advance of the wedding day.   Sounds like a drag, I know,  BUT,  the most relaxed brides and grooms are the ones who figured out in advance how their day was going to flow.  They know who was taking care of which details when, have a full time line written out for everyone to see ( complete with travel times) and have put someone (who wasn’t the mother of the bride) in charge of any erroneous details on their wedding day.  That way the day can flow on time, the flowers arrive at the church on time, family members are ready for photos when you are, the flowers are all pinned on before the ceremony starts, and everyone is ready to relax and have some fun!  If the bride is being bombarded with details and questions all day – it’s hard to relax.  Put a friend in charge.

If you are not the planning type – involve a friend or sibling who is – or consult a wedding planner.  Your day will be awesome, and you will look fabuously refreshed, relaxed, and have a great time!

RCMP cake topper photo by: Stephanie Cragg

This is one of the most fun and fitting cake toppers that I’ve ever seen at an Edmonton wedding… both the bride & groom are RCMP officers! The topper was purchased through the RCMP store in Regina.
