I was at a wedding recently and saw the incredible work of the ladies of Classy Affairs I would recommend their services to anyone.

Wedding Planners add Peace of Mind
Saturday, August 29th, 2009A lot of our couples decide to hire a wedding planner for their day. We find weddings that have planners are much more peaceful for the bride and groom, and rather than answering calls on their cell phones during photo time, they can relax and be assured everything is being handled! One of our favorite planners is VIP Event Consultants. They have always gone over the top to assure everything runs smooth and looks great!

Unique Engagment Photos! The Early Bird Catches the Light!
Friday, August 28th, 2009Engagement photos are a great way to get to know your photographer and they are an awesome opportunity to do something that is going to be totally different from your wedding photos! White dress and Tux aside, it’s nice to make the engagement photos kick serious butt. You choice of location, attire, or even time of day affects the outcome greatly.
I was blown away when this couple asked for an early sunday morning shoot! 7:30 is pretty early to meet up. The only other creatures awake at that time were probably birds and the worms they were busy eating. Maybe a cockroach or two. But that also means that there’s no other people around to distract, or walk into your backgrounds. It’s so peaceful and creates a totally different mood than an evening sunset shoot. So think of some other ways to shake up your e-shoot to make it different… like wearing a tanktop and shorts in the winter, or dressed like ninjas or something. Ok, maybe not but you get the idea.

Anniversary Portraits

portraits / photo by Stephanie Cragg
What better way to rekindle some of that wedding day romance and attentiveness to your partner, than with an Anniversary Portrait Session! Tina & Jad were fabulous to work with again, almost exactly two years after their Edmonton wedding (they were my 7/7/7 couple!)

Made in the Shade
Wednesday, August 26th, 2009Outdoor ceremonies are wonderful. They truly are. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, and sunlight shining down as you say your vows. Nothing sounds better, right? Except for that sunlight part! From a photographic perspective, standing out in the sun for your ceremony is tough. You’ll have squinty eyes, weird shadows on your faces, and shiny skin. Boo. If you’re going to have an outdoor ceremony, try as hard as you can to arrange it so you and your fiance are standing in the shade. You’ll have beautiful light on you, and your photographer will be super pleased!

Thank your out-of-towners

This amazing gift box greeted us at our hotel at a recent out of town wedding. It held snacks, traveller’s items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, and maps and information pertaining to the wedding. This is a great way to thank your out of town guests for making the journey, however short or long, to celebrate with you.

Just Because Photos

Jill and Dion by Pink Sugar Photography
Just because the wedding is over doesn’t mean the photo sessions need to be. There are so many options for photographs after your wedding, from a day after session, to maternity, newborn and family photos, to photos for no reason at all. Jill and Dion felt it was time for some new images to reflect them today, a few years after their wedding, so we headed out earlier this summer to create some awesome images just because.

Pets are family too!

Doggies!
Alix and Todd made sure to include their dogs in a couple of photos – they’re important members of the family too! (not to mention super cute!) The idea of transporting your dogs around with you on your big day is admittedly a bit daunting, but one good idea is to have a helpful friend or relative who’s not involved in the wedding party, or your doggie sitter, bring your pets to you at some point during your photo session! A fun photo op!

Swinging
Saturday, August 22nd, 2009We wanted to share a cool photograph with you from one of our weddings years back. The bride and groom were up for anything, so we hit a park next to the location we were photographing at in St. Albert. The photos on the swing were some of their favorite from the day!

You know you’d love to have some especially faboosh shoes for your wedding day. But how do you justify it? Ahhh.. let me show you the way! You just need to think of it like this: awesome shoes can be worn over and over after the wedding! Makes perfect sense

Take a Break

Don’t forget to have fun on your wedding – every minute doesn’t need to be accounted for. When Katy & Jon found out that Orange Julius was giving away free smoothies for one day only, their wedding day, they scheduled a trip to Southgate.

Trash the dress.

Edmonton Trash the Dress Photographs - Photo by CU Photography
So, your big day has come and gone. Now what to do with your dress before you have it cleaned professionally. Why not schedule a session with your Edmonton wedding photographer to do a trash the dress session. A more liberated and artistic session that you (and your new hubby) will love. With no time constraints or nagging worries about the reception that you have to get to, you’ll have tons of fun, guaranteed.
Oh, and your dress ususally doesn’t end up trashed either. Maybe a bit wet, depending on your photographer.
Ring Shots
Monday, August 17th, 2009Everyone has ring shots on their wedding day. I have seen several ways to do it, but one of the coolest I have seen so far is the imprints in the sand. If you are driving by a sandbox on your way to or from any of your locations, I would recommend stopping by for a quick and interesting ring shot.
Guys, don’t worry about it!
Sunday, August 16th, 2009The months and weeks leading up to your wedding can be full of many emotions that culminate at one particular moment. The moment your future bride hits the opposite end of your aisle all the emotion that’s built up reaches a fervent boiling point. And guess what guys? It happens to the best of us. It’s ok to cry!
Wishing you happiness, joy, and laughter!
