If you are having a winter wedding, be sure to discuss with your professional photographer, the timing for your wedding day photos. In the excitement of planning, it’s often overlooked that during the winter, the sun sure sets early! But with forethought, you can take advantage of some of the uniqueness that ‘winter light’ offers

Pictures in a Library - by Picture That Photography
Sarah & Graeme chose the U of A to take some of their wedding photographs. The photograph you see here is taken in Rutherford Library, where Sarah did a lot of studying to get her nurses degree! Completely original, it was a lot of fun to photograph while whispering directions so as not to disturb the other students there!

This is simply just one of my all time favourite portraits of a groom. We made this photo of James in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains.

We were very impressed to see Esther & Nathan go around to each and every one of their guests tables at their Sutton Place reception. They did a toast with everyone, and made each guest feel so welcome.

On Track - by Picture That Photography
Photographers love shooting somewhere different than usual. Unusual locations bring out extra creativity! Wendy and Neville’s pictures were done on a track, as Neville often runs on one while prepping for the Olympics! This spot had special meaning to them, and made us excited at the different possibilities!

vintage dress? do a vintage photo! - photo by Night and Day Photo
This great wedding was so fun and so full of great vintage details. From the brides shawl, to the vintage limo, the grooms pinstriped suit, and the birdcage veil piece – the vintage details from this wedding were thoughtfully and beautifully put together. So, in the midst of their wedding photos, we took the opprotunity to take this photo in true early 1900’s style. Hotel MacDonald fireplace, poker faces, texture treated black and white. I love it!!
If your wedding has a theme in the decor or dress, why not take the opportunity to incorporate it into your photos? The results can be awesome! If it’s a casino theme then take some photos playing cards, if it’s vintage attire then take photos in a vintage style, if your having a winter wonderland wedding then take some photos in the many ice sculpture exhibits around town. There should be a way to incorporate your theme and style into your photos.

There are a lot of amazing gowns available, no doubt about it. One designer that is fairly accessible in Alberta bridal salons is Maggie Sottero. The reason I bring up these dresses is that I can honestly say that every bride I’ve ever seen wearing one of these gowns, has had it fit them beautifully. For that reason, I’d highly recommend you at least taking a look at this designer.

Yes, yes, we all know everything is about the bride. But when Nick came up with his own idea for a pose with his guys, we jusmped at the chance. We love it when our grooms are into the photos!

Jodi and Jason - Photo by Buffy Goodman
Not exactly a white dress kind of girl? Want to stand out? Don’t feel the need to conform – it’s your day, and you should let your unique personality shine through!
Jodi chose a super hot blue dress that looked fabulous and truly reflected her fun loving personality. They both looked amazing, and as an added bonus, they were comfortable, enabling us to have a really fun photo session and a fantastic day!

Sunset - Picture That Photography
Sunsets usually happen while the reception is in full swing on most wedding days. If you have a neat location, step outside with your photographer for five minutes to catch a great sunset photograph. You’ll be so happy you did!

This to me, is the epitome of COOL on a wedding day: both James and Tanya (our bride & groom) are RCMP officers. How amazing did they look, along with the RCMP honour guard, with the Rocky Mountains as their setting!

We all know weddings are often formal events, but there’s no reason not to have a great time. Have some champagne with your girls while you’re getting ready, and let your personality shine through. After all, this is YOUR day!

Truffle Cake - image by Trident Photography
I was shooting a wedding recently, and what really caught my eye was the fabulous cake they had. Well, I use the term cake lightly, because while the very top piece was cake (for cutting) the rest was actually truffles on a stick. The guests were invited to come and pull out a 24kt gold leaf covered truffle to enjoy. Since the colors of the wedding were also brown and gold, this cake really fit the bill.

Snowy Engagement Photos! - Picture That Photography
Winter is beautiful and romantic, so bring on the snow! If your wedding is in the summer, or on a beach, why not take your engagement pictures in the winter for some variation? We love snowy pictures… they provide a beautiful clean backdrop which really shows off Jennifer and Darren in these photographs!
