Make Time for Meetings

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I get a lot of emails asking me what my prices are, and if I am available on X date. (as do many of my colleagues) This is kind of the equivalent to calling a store and asking if they sell dresses, and how much are they? Well as you can imagine, depending on what you are looking for, the prices can vary, also important is whether there is a good fit. Would you buy a dress if you never tried it on? A consultation with your photographer is like trying on a dress, you want to establish if there is a good fit. Does their personality and character mesh well with yours? Establishing a budget is great, but like an amazing dress, if you found one that fit you like a glove and made you look amazing, you might be willing to spend a little more than you thought. So I urge you to take the time to ‘try on’ your photographer and see if you get that incedible fit.

Generally, once you have booked your wedding day and picked the venue, the next thing you secure is a photographer.  Never forget that your photographer is a valuable resource for information and ideas.  They have attended many weddings and worked with many vendors.  In most cases, photographers are the only service provider that gets to see all of the other service providers at your wedding, from the make-up atrist to the DJ.  Who is a good florist?  Where can I get a custom cake?  What is a good indoor location?  Got any ideas for party favors?  Do you kow a stylist who will come to my house?  All of these are things your photographer may be able to assist you with.  All it takes is an email.
