Capture the Moment, not the Stuff!

Walking to the Reception: Photo by Night and Day Photography One of my favourite things to do is snap some photos of the Bride and Groom when they aren’t expecting it, and the best time to  catch them in a moment is usually when they are walking somewhere.  Unfortunately, with all the things one needs to have ready for the wedding, these moments can also include flip flops, water bottles, and the like.   With veils, trains, flowers, and suits already requiring extra attention, it’s often a great idea to delegate carrying the miscellaneous items to a groomsman.  This way, you can get the great candid photos you always wanted.

Picking a unique location for your photos

Wedding photos at Ram River Falls Kananaskis

Wedding photos at Ram River Falls Kananaskis

Why not hang out at one of your favourite places on your wedding day and have your photos done there?  That’s what this bride and groom did.  Their wedding took place earlier in the day, reception was actually a late lunch which was amazing and hosted at their favourite restaurant.  That allowed them to spend the rest of the day, just the two of them taking photos in their favourite park:  Ram River Falls in Kanananskis, and they had the evening to them selves.  It was awesome and no one else will have photos like they do!

Wedding in a Winter Wonderland

Perfect Winter Wedding Bliss - photo by Night and Day Photography

Perfect Winter Wedding Bliss - photo by Night and Day Photography

Okay, we all know I love winter… but seriously, what could be more perfect that photos in the perfect undisturbed snow for your winter wedding.  Granted, I do recommend having an indoor location for photos as well, but by embracing the winter – you can get something so awesome.  This bride was actually warmer than her groom.  She had the big hooded cape, mittens with hand warmers in them, and big boots on under her dress.  Talk about prepared!

This photo was taken at the Hotel MacDonald – a great place for both indoor photos and outdoor photos.  The private garden allows for river valley views, and crowd control is usually not too much of a problem. It’s also easy to run in and out to warm up!

Don’t forget to have fun on your wedding – every minute doesn’t need to be accounted for.  When Katy & Jon found out that Orange Julius was giving away free smoothies for one day only, their wedding day, they scheduled a trip to Southgate.

A great way to add a personal touch to your wedding images is to bring along some props to play with! This weekend our couple had a gorgeous red parasol from China. That let us create this really fun and unique image! Let your photographers know if you have some neat props you’d like to incorporate into your photos. Chances are they’ll love the opportunity to play!

Sneaking Away - Rob & Lauren Photographers

Did you know the best time for photos is the hour or so before sunset? On a wedding day that usually is right during the reception! But let your photographers sneak you outside for 10 minutes and you’ll be treated to amazing light! Golden sunsets, dramatic clouds, and peace and quiet for a few minutes, what’s not to love??? And your photographers will be super pumped as well!

I wanted to share a really cool image we created at a wedding this past weekend! We were out at Red Tail Landing Golf Course and had snuck away for a few photos in the trees. Just as we had our couple sit down for a few snuggly photos, and rabbit came down the path and hopped over the log right beside them! What a cute moment, and great story from their wedding day!

Fort Edmonton Park - by Rob & Lauren

Fort Edmonton Park is easily one of our favourite places in the city to shoot a wedding. Not only do they have a ton of great venues for your ceremony and reception (for something really unique try the airplane hangar!), the amount of amazing spots for photos is just mind blowing. You can stroll through the old streets, or head over to the old fort like we did this past weekend. Rustic wood, gorgeous textures and beautiful light make Fort Edmonton Park a fantastic place for your wedding photos! And in case of pesky rain there are tons of buildings to duck into. Doesn’t that sound perfect?
