One of my favourite things to do is snap some photos of the Bride and Groom when they aren’t expecting it, and the best time to catch them in a moment is usually when they are walking somewhere. Unfortunately, with all the things one needs to have ready for the wedding, these moments can also include flip flops, water bottles, and the like. With veils, trains, flowers, and suits already requiring extra attention, it’s often a great idea to delegate carrying the miscellaneous items to a groomsman. This way, you can get the great candid photos you always wanted.

Hitch Hiking to the Reception - photo by Night and Day Photography
This wedding was such a riot, the bride and groom had so much fun throughout the day and it carried over into the photos. From “Top Model fun” shots, to goofy fun, to high fashion style, to intimate photos – they had it all. This is just one of the fun photos they did on their wedding day. It rained just before the reception, but the rest of the day had been so beautiful, it didn’t stop the fun. Click on the photo if you want to see more.
So much of your time, effort, and money go into planning your perfect celebration. Have some fun, enjoy your wedding! It makes for the best memories, and photos!

Wedding photos at Ram River Falls Kananaskis
Why not hang out at one of your favourite places on your wedding day and have your photos done there? That’s what this bride and groom did. Their wedding took place earlier in the day, reception was actually a late lunch which was amazing and hosted at their favourite restaurant. That allowed them to spend the rest of the day, just the two of them taking photos in their favourite park: Ram River Falls in Kanananskis, and they had the evening to them selves. It was awesome and no one else will have photos like they do!

Rorik & Julia had a unique and subtle theme for their wedding reception: puzzles! Their fun centrepieces, menus, and even the cake all incorporated mind puzzles and visual tricks.

I get a lot of emails asking me what my prices are, and if I am available on X date. (as do many of my colleagues) This is kind of the equivalent to calling a store and asking if they sell dresses, and how much are they? Well as you can imagine, depending on what you are looking for, the prices can vary, also important is whether there is a good fit. Would you buy a dress if you never tried it on? A consultation with your photographer is like trying on a dress, you want to establish if there is a good fit. Does their personality and character mesh well with yours? Establishing a budget is great, but like an amazing dress, if you found one that fit you like a glove and made you look amazing, you might be willing to spend a little more than you thought. So I urge you to take the time to ‘try on’ your photographer and see if you get that incedible fit.

Perfect Winter Wedding Bliss - photo by Night and Day Photography
Okay, we all know I love winter… but seriously, what could be more perfect that photos in the perfect undisturbed snow for your winter wedding. Granted, I do recommend having an indoor location for photos as well, but by embracing the winter – you can get something so awesome. This bride was actually warmer than her groom. She had the big hooded cape, mittens with hand warmers in them, and big boots on under her dress. Talk about prepared!
This photo was taken at the Hotel MacDonald – a great place for both indoor photos and outdoor photos. The private garden allows for river valley views, and crowd control is usually not too much of a problem. It’s also easy to run in and out to warm up!

vintage dress? do a vintage photo! - photo by Night and Day Photo
This great wedding was so fun and so full of great vintage details. From the brides shawl, to the vintage limo, the grooms pinstriped suit, and the birdcage veil piece – the vintage details from this wedding were thoughtfully and beautifully put together. So, in the midst of their wedding photos, we took the opprotunity to take this photo in true early 1900’s style. Hotel MacDonald fireplace, poker faces, texture treated black and white. I love it!!
If your wedding has a theme in the decor or dress, why not take the opportunity to incorporate it into your photos? The results can be awesome! If it’s a casino theme then take some photos playing cards, if it’s vintage attire then take photos in a vintage style, if your having a winter wonderland wedding then take some photos in the many ice sculpture exhibits around town. There should be a way to incorporate your theme and style into your photos.

Classic Church Photo by Night and Day Photography
I love the classic black and white wedding photos with the couple in front of an old stone church that you see in family albums from years past. That’s why I’m always delighted when brides and grooms pick these great old churches to get married in. Usually, they have also picked a venue to take photos at – but – taking just a couple of minutes to take a photo in front of the church always turns out awesome!
This church is the beautiful St. Joachim church in central Edmonton. I’ve always wanted to shoot a wedding here and I was NOT disappointed at all. Not only is the outside fantastic, the priest was fun, the stained glass was awesome, it had lots of parking, and the roof… the roof is spectacular from the inside. I totally recommend it! It’s a great Edmonton Venue for a ceremony – particularly if your looking for a catholic wedding. Just don’t miss out on a photo outside the church before you take off after the ceremony.

Wedding dress waiting to be worn - photo by Night and Day Photography
Wedding photo coverage seems to be all over the map, but my preference is to spend the entire day with each bride and groom. One of the big reasons is the wedding day is just that – a whole day. In some cultures it is even longer – but I digress… I like to go early in the morning and get photos of everyone hanging out, as well as some dramatic shots of the dress, shoes, and other accessories. After picking each member of your bridal party, it is nice to have photos hanging out together. AND after spending months picking out each detail – it’s only right there should be a photo to remember it by. If I simply show up at the ceremony – I miss all these photos, and let’s face it, there is no other opportunity to take photos like this as the day goes on. If I were to leave after the formals, then there would be no photos of the first dance, friends hanging out together, family spending time together and of course, no same-day slide show of the days photos. So, while it makes for a very long day of shooting and carting around gear – I believe it is worth it. So whatever photographer you choose, consider the full day coverage package.

Jill and Dion by Pink Sugar Photography
Just because the wedding is over doesn’t mean the photo sessions need to be. There are so many options for photographs after your wedding, from a day after session, to maternity, newborn and family photos, to photos for no reason at all. Jill and Dion felt it was time for some new images to reflect them today, a few years after their wedding, so we headed out earlier this summer to create some awesome images just because.

Wedding Rings - Photo by CU Photography
One tip that I try to pass along to all my clients, is to have their rings cleaned prior to the wedding day. Especially your engagement ring, as it can get a bit dirty from everyday use and wear.
When your Edmonton wedding photographer borrows them, you want the simple brilliance of your rings to shine through. Not goop and dirt that show up in a ring shot photo such as this one.

Unique wedding ideas - Photo by Shandro Photo
We love to see people infusing their personalities into their wedding. No better example than Oriana and Mike – for their fall wedding they did so many unique things. Oriana wore a beautiful chocolate evening gown rather than the traditional white gown, both Oriana and Mike had only one attendant (both being guys), and they had some of their portraits done in a parking garage. Definitely not your typical wedding, and every detail meant so much to them. The result was truly unique photos and memories of their wedding.

Indoor Photograph, Photo by Picture That Photography
Everyone hopes it’s a nice day when they get married, but sometimes it isn’t, at least for some portion of picture time. If you are prepared with a back-up location, or choose a place that offers both, you have no need to worry! Many places can be used as a back-up spot, but to ensure things go smoothly, we recommend checking with the place to find out about booking it. The fees associated with many indoor locations are insignificant when compared to the pay off if they need to be used.
