Color is what its all about… choose your favorite color, then ask your wedding photographer to find a backdrop in that color!  We loved this yellow building as a backdrop for some of Jennifer and Jason’s wedding photos!

Night Romance - by Picture That Photography

Night Romance - by Picture That Photography

Want a different feel to your wedding photographs?  Do them at night!  Night offers a different feel, different colors and a sort of calm you don’t experience during the day.  Plus, not a lot of couples have wedding photos done at night time!

Custom cake toppers look like the bride and groom

Custom cake toppers look like the bride and groom

I love these cake toppers!  They were actually custom made to look like the bride and groom.  Complete with matching dress, suit and tie, flowers, even the hair matches the bride’s and groom’s.   What a great idea!

Sitting back and watching the clouds roll by - photo by Night and Day Photography

Sitting back and watching the clouds roll by - photo by Night and Day Photography

The wedding day is a busy day, and with all the family and friends in for the occasion, it can be a bit crazy.  I love taking the bride and groom away from it all for a few minutes and letting them sit back and relax together while I take photos from so far away, they often don’t know I’m there.    It gives them a well chance to be alone on their wedding day, and it makes for some nice photos.

Simple is Beautiful - by Picture That Photography

We loved this plain (almost one-color) backdrop we found for Jocelyn and Joshua’s wedding last year!  Sometimes something neutral or colorless is an awesome backdrop!  It really brings the viewer’s attention right into the couple and makes them pop!

Wedgewood Room - by Picture That Photography

One of our favorite places in Edmonton for ceremonies and receptions alike is the Hotel MacDonald.  It has such a classic look and the food is amazing!  This photograph is taken in the Wedgewood Room at Mary and Dave’s wedding back in 2008!

Looking In - By Picture That Photography

Looking In - By Picture That Photography

One of my favorite photographs from this wedding is this one… taken from outside the building through the window.  I love the feeling in it, of an observer or passerby catching a glimpse of the wedding as they walk by.

YMCA - by Picture That Photography

A lot of couples hire a photographer to photograph until the end of the first few dances only.  We recommend having your photographer stay a little longer.  Some of our most fun dance shots have been an hour or so into the dance when  a large group hits the floor!

Keeping Dry and Getting a Great Shot in the Rain

Keeping Dry and Getting a Great Shot in the Rain - photo by Night and Day Photography

If you are looking for a photo location in Stony Plain or near Spruce Grove, the Rotary Park in Stony Plain is a great place!  It has quite a bit there for photos. There is a gazebo, bridge, paths, trees, great green space, a pond, this building AND a railway track complete with a couple cars.  It’s awesome!  We were really impressed with the variety when we shot this wedding in Spruce Grove last year.  It’s worth a look if you are planning a wedding in the area.

Heather and Kevin had a gorgeous wedding last year.  One of our favorite photographs was this one, with a wall of ivy in the background.  You may wish to incorporate some bright green ivy in a few of your wedding or engagement photographs!

Haning out on Whyte

Hanging out on Whyte

Who says photos have to be at the legislature.  Edmonton is FULL of fun places to take photos.  Whyte Avenue is always interesting  and all the foot traffic makes for some great photos too!   Sometimes compete strangers even come up to the happy couple and give them a little cash to celebrate with – so aside from great photos, and lots of fun too, you may actually get a little spending cash out of it!

Shadow Play - by Picture That Photography

At Wendy and Neville’s wedding, we found an awesome spot where shadows were really harsh and beautiful.  We decided they created a beautiful pattern and backdrop, so used them to create some art for the couple!  Shadows are something not a lot of us pay attention to, but if you like this effect as your Edmonton wedding photographer to find an awesome shadow spot for you!

The Groom Getting Ready - by Picture That Photography

The Groom Getting Ready - by Picture That Photography

If your budget allows, hiring two photographers is an awesome idea.  Most companies will have more than one photographer, and packages including coverage by two photographers.  The parts that usually don’t get seen in a wedding (the groom getting ready, a lot of guest photographs, and some awesome creative angles on the ceremony) will be captured with two photographers.  Usually two photographers results in more photographs, and most importantly two perspectives on the same happenings.

Getting Ready for the Big Day! - photo by Night and Day Photo

Getting Ready for the Big Day! - photo by Night and Day Photo

Ah April, spring time.  Seasons of tulips, daffodils, birdies, and blossoms, right?  Well, if you are planning a wedding in Edmonton, you had better be ready for it to be perfect spring, or hard core winter.  It seems at least one wedding in April a year will be snowed out.  Case in point, the storm yesterday!

This photo is from a fabulous April wedding, filled with fun, laughs and good times.  It just also happened to include snow, slush, and wet puddles hidden under snow.  So I guess what I’m trying to say is April weddings can be sun or snow… be prepared.  Pack umbrellas, and you might want to wear boots under that dress for getting around between sites… OR have your groom wear boots and use it as an excuse to have him carry you everywhere!  (  :  Either way you go, be sure to have lots of fun.
